I Am Lily, and this is my voice

I’ve been told I should write a “Hi-I’m-Lily-And-Here’s-Why-I’m-Writing-A-Blog” introduction. This is a dangerous assignment.

So I’ll just cut to the chase. I’m blogging because I love to hear the sound of my own voice. It’s a great voice. And I wisely agree with practically everything I have to say and everything I have to say is substantiated by my own opinions.

I have a lot of opinions about teaching. And learning. And even more about what is Not teaching and what is Not learning. And I’m never shy about sharing, except that it’s frustrating if I’m limited to sharing with the people for whom I am cooking dinner.

And you might never make it to a conference where I am the speaker (I am very, very popular on the education speaking circuit because I am very, very free).

So this way, I get to tell you my opinions and I don’t have to cook you dinner and you can sit on your sofa and not have to go to a conference. This seems like a win-win to me.

So, I will write these blogs. I am told to be careful, because if I say anything controversial – that is, if I say anything worth saying – some readers might be offended and they will not hold back telling me what they think of my IQ, my parentage, my loyalty to God and Country, etc.

Oh, I hope so. I hope so much that I will say something that will offend somebody and somebody will want to meet me outside and somebody else will put up their electronic dukes and we’ll rumble like Sharks and Jets on a stage with everybody else watching and nobody getting hurt because it’s a show, after all, and we’re really all ballet dancers but there’s a chance that maybe somebody listening starts to actually think and actually do something that actually matters.

But maybe that metaphor will offend somebody.

If it does, please let me know.

You have always inspired me with your elegant presence and the depth of your words/conversations. You inspire me now. (((thinking…..I should write a blog; I can do it, too))) I look forward to more inspirations.

Woo hoo! A Lily blog! I’ll be sure to take time out from teaching my “bubble” kids so I can read something worth reading! But will you still cook us dinner if we listen?

  4. Sue Veatch says:

If I respond, will it be like nodding my head in the faculty room and you keep talking? Actually, I love to hear you talk so reading will be close!

Hey, yo pienso que este blog debe ser bilingue también, eso me ofende… que discriminación!…

I used to teach third grade at Orchard Elementary from around 1985 to 1990. I remember Lily singing songs that made me laugh and think. I remember Sue wearing buttons on her shirt that made me laugh and think. My last name back then was Vedadi. Do you remember me? I just want to say it was an honor to have worked in the same school with you and that I am so proud of both of you. My best teaching memories were at Orchard Elementary because you both kept it interesting.

    Sincerely,
    Lisa

Hello, I too remember Lily singing, when she came to our state, and I sold her a t-shirt in support of our student program. Just to let you know, I have continued studying to become an outstanding teacher (see letters after my name); I have been so inspired by our NEA leaders.
Got any suggestions on getting a classroom job?
    Keep up the good work.
